A hanging sculpture created by architect David Solhøj Thorborg and musician and composer Erling Hjernø
Ørenlyd is the result of a remarkable meeting between two artistic realms. During his residency at Spinderihallerne from 2011 to 2013, musician Erling Hjernø composed a series of musical works specifically for the venue.
When architect David Thorborg, who at the time was also based at Spinderihallerne, heard Erling’s music, he asked: What if we transformed your music into a fixed, physical form? The answer now floats beneath the ceiling of Spinderihallerne. Through the use of computer technology and imaginative force, a 10‑second piece of music was first translated into visual information, then interpreted into a meaningful form, and finally cut from wood — by hand, using a saw.
The sculpture was first presented as part of a larger audio‑visual performance on Architecture Day in October 2012, here at Spinderihallerne.
